Tas dari bahan kulit biasanya lebih awet. Apalagi tas kulit dengan samakan yang sangat halus, akan menjadi koleksi yang istimewa. Namun, alangkah sayangnya jika Anda tak merawatnya dengan tepat. Tas kulit yang harganya lumayan mahal itu tak akan tampak istimewa lagi. Tak jarang timbul bercak putih karena tas disimpan lama pada tempat yang lembab. Karenanya agar tas kulit Anda tetap terlihat baru dan awet, ada beberapa tips yang dapat Anda lakukan:
- Hindarkan kontak langsung dengan sinar matahari dalam waktu lama. Paparan sinar matahari dapat merusak permukaan kulit, misalnya pecah-pecah atau terlihat seperti retak.
- Hindarkan air. Jika terlanjur terkena air, segera keringkan dengan lap kering dan bertekstur lembut.
- Simpanlah tas yang tidak digunakan dalam kantong penyimpan (dust bag). Jika tas sudah tidak digunakan lagi dalam waktu yang relatif lama, sekali-kali tas dapat dikeluarkan dari kemasannya dan diangin-anginkan.
- Jangan pernah menyimpan tas kulit berdekatan atau menempel dengan tas berbahan plastik. Karena tas plastik dapat menyerap bahan pencelup warna pada kulit. Hal itu dapat menyebabkan tas kulit bernoda yang terlihat seperti terkena jamur.
- Jika tas disimpan dalam lemari, gunakan produk anti lembab seperti kamper atau silica gel yang bisa dibeli di apotek. Letakkan di dalam tas kulit Anda agar tidak berjamur.
- Jika tas kulit Anda sudah terlanjur berjamur, jangan panik. Jamur dapat dihilangkan dengan cara menyikatnya dengan lap bertekstur lembut. Kalau bercak putih itu terdapat di bagian dalam tas, bersihkan dengan sikat halus baru kemudian bersihkan dengan lap kering. Gunakan sabun khusus kulit (saddle soap) atau krim pembersih khusus untuk kulit, keduanya dapat diperoleh di pasar swalayan. Agar mengkilap, gosoklah dengan kain lembut.

Tas dan aksesoris dari kulit
Disinilah tempat kulit buaya diolah menjadi berbagai produk yang memiliki nilai ekonomi tinggi, seperti tas, dan berbagai aksesoris dari kulit lainnya. Sebelum dibentuk menjadi berbagai jenis produk, kulit buaya mentah terlebih dahulu dicuci dan diolah.
Disinilah tempat pengolahannya dengan menggunakan mesin khusus yang disebut molen. Semua kulit yang diolah disini berasal dari buaya yang telah berusia 2 sampai 3 tahun. Kulit buaya yang telah diolah dan diberi warna kemudian disemprot cairan kimia, agar dapat bertahan lama.
Kulit lalu dijemur di ruangan pengeringan. Proses pengeringan memakan waktu hingga 12 jam, dengan suhu 40 derajat celsius. Setelah kulit buaya kering, lalu dipilih yang berkualitas bagus untuk diproses lebih lanjut.
Kulit yang telah kering lalu dipoles lagi dengan digosok batu akik. Sehingga warnanya mengkilap dan lebih bercahaya. Untuk melengkapi kulit luar, diproduksi juga kulit dari binatang lain yang lebih lembut, sebagai bahan pelapis bagian dalam tas. Biasanya digunakan kulit sapi, kulit kambing, dan kulit domba.
Setelah seluruh bahan selesai dibuat, selanjutnya dirangkai di ruang produksi. Disinilah proses pemolesan akhir dilakukan, agar diperoleh berbagai jenis tas dan aksesoris dari kulit yang berkualitas.
Selain kulit buaya, di tempat ini juga dibuat tas dan aksesoris dari kulit reptil lainnya, seperti ular dan biawak. Namun kualitas kulit buaya tetap tertinggi dan harganya paling mahal. Produk yang telah selesai dibuat kemudian diletakkan di ruangan pamer.
